Photography

Working primarily in black and white, often with a Holga camera, I am interested in personal narratives that document the ordinary as extraordinary, particularly among the elderly. In a region fixated on celebrity and idealized notions of beauty, my work purposefully explores the lives of everyday folks—mothers and grandmothers in particular—and includes a series of portraits of senior neighbors outside their childhood homes, of mid-day senior dances held at Santa Monica's 1450 Ocean/Camera Obscura, and a range of ordinary, yet poignant moments with everyday folks from Dakar to Havana to Oaxaca.
